San Francisco: It’s a Touchy Subject
San Francisco is NOT as bad as it is made out to be. Are there homeless? YES. A lot of it. Is there really poop 💩 on the street. YES, I have almost stepped in some. Are there people doing drugs out in the open, YES, but a lot of this crime is perpetrated by the homeless among theirselves as well as the drug use.
Don’t walk the streets at night. There are safer neighborhoods as detailed below where you can walk the streets, but I am not testing that theory.
Don’t leave valuables in your car. Period. Car break-ins are everywhere, and especially in the tourist areas. Criminals know where the tourists park and what do tourists have in their car, suitcases.
For the sake of time, I would like to share these two resources on “How to be vigilant” and where to stay away from. IF you are planning to visit San Francisco, start here.

Our Experience in Visiting the City
I used to hate San Francisco. However, in the past few years we have been visiting San Francisco a lot, traveling there for our music events, or some would say, “raves.” The artists we follow play here.
We started traveling often in 2020, yes, the pandemic year, but music venues in San Francisco County were open, but to limited ticket sales, and the event had to be outdoors, and masks of course. We would stay in the same hotel. We didn’t DARE explore or travel outside of the block where we were staying. In time, we started to get out and explore more, and currently, any time we travel to the city we stay in a different hotel. We are more confident in exploring the city, but we are vigilant too!
In our many travels to the city, we have never been accosted, scared, or had our car broken in to. TIP: PAY for the valet at the hotel you’re staying at. I am not entirely sure where they park our car, but I can attest to the fact that with all the times we have stayed, our car has never been broken in to. We do take everything out of our car and bring it to our room.
It’s not fun trying to find parking, so, save some time and have some peace of mind in just having valet parking, AND, if you check out on a Sunday but plan to some sightseeing, just ask if you can leave your car in valet, and ride share to wherever you are going. Hotels understand this. They will let you leave your car as you’ve already paid for Sunday’s stay, right?
So what are our recommendations?
These are places that we have actually visited, stayed at, or ate at.
