Mendocino and Shasta Counties

Mendocino and Shasta counties, rugged landscape with sweeping views forever!

Full disclosure, we haven’t traveled up this way too much. We are mostly spontaneous with our weekend trips, and the drive up the Mendocino coast, or through the spine of the Central Valley to Redding and beyond, takes time.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our two visits to Lake Shasta, as well as our one visit to Fort Bragg. Other than that, we have driven through the Shasta region a few times on our way to Oregon and Washington. The drive is simply majestic.

If you truly want to get away from any population and enjoy the serenity of the outdoors, outside of visiting the more “populated” cities of Fort Bragg, Eureka or Redding, then there are the counties of Humboldt, Trinity, and Del Norte on the coast, and inland, Siskiyou, Modoc, Lassen, and Plumas Counties.

So what are our recommendations?

These are places that we have actually visited, stayed at, or ate at.
