Sacramento Region
The Sacramento Region has a lot to offer
Now, we live in the Sacramento region, in Roseville, a suburb east of Sacramento. So, we are not going to necessarily travel here, however, we have done a few “staycations” in the city.
We are also guilty of not exploring this bold city enough. It’s the proverbial, “oh, we can go at anytime.” Sacramento is a vibrant, up and coming region with a ton of history.
During the Summer months, it gets hot, like, temperatures hovering around the century mark. If you don’t like the heat, do not visit Sacramento during the Summer.
Neighboring Placer County, specifically, South Placer County is a hub for youth sports with many recreational opportunities. So, if your kids have youth sports tournaments, and you're looking to stay in the Roseville, Rocklin, Lincoln area, check out this website for help: Placer Valley Tourism

Drake's The Barn in West Sacramento
Drake’s at the Barn in W. Sacramento is a fun community gathering spot. There is a beer garden, great food, their own beer, wine, and cocktails. Grab a picnic table, or a lawn chair and partake in their lawn games. This is all with the backdrop of the Sacramento River.

Old Sacramento
Visiting Old Sacramento is the number one thing to do when visiting Sacramento. There are a number of shops, dining options, and museums. If you’re a fan of the railroad, you will be in heaven here!

When visiting Old Sacramento, it’s tempting to go to Joe’s Crab Shack, but, a much better option is to avoid the lines, and head to the Rio City Cafe. Enjoy dining out on the airy patio overlooking all the historic landmarks of Sacramento on the Sacramento River.

Kimpton Sawyer Hotel in Downtown Sacramento
We stayed at the Kimpton Sawyer once in 2019, for a Staycation. It was wonderful! At the time of our stay, we were able to get on of their few rooms with a balcony for about $350. It’s now over $500 a night, so, if you can afford it, the room has spectacular views looking west with views forever. On their website, be sure to check out Echo & Rig, their steakhouse on the first floor!! Wow.

Dawson’s Steakhouse is located inside the Hyatt Regency in downtown Sacramento. We once had a staycation at the Hyatt and really enjoyed the steakhouse, enough, where we returned without staying at the Hyatt.

Old Town Folsom
Old Folsom, “the place where the West came to stay.” You can spend a few hours visiting shops, art galleries, antiques, boutiques, and of course, dining all within walking distance.

I know Folsom Lake is not necessarily a “destination” point if you’re visiting California for the first time, but, for those who are traveling to the Sacramento area for business, or youth sports, and its a warm Summer day, head to Folsom Lake.
